Jodi's Movie Picks of the Month

This year the Oscar's pick for best movie Slumdog Millionaire was a surprising treat.The children who did the acting in this film are fantastic.I thought it was a unique way of telling the story of these three young children. Telling it through the eyes of Jamal the young man on India's version of Who Wants to be a Millionaire and traveling back in time with him to the events that got him on the show was clever. I even thought the touch of Bollywood ending in closing credits was fun. Over all this was a great movie that makes your heart go out to the homeless chidren of India.

New Local Author

Many people in town have brought this book to my attention and have truly enjoyed this novel. I was also told to expect to read about places in the area that we all know and love.

This months Author of the Month is Mo Willems.

Willems is an childerns author who is best know for the Pigeon Series and Knuffle Bunny: A Cautionary Tale. His simple and colorful illustrations allow the charaters to come alive. In The Pigeon Wants a Puppy, children enjoy Pigeon's colorful nature while adults enjoy the humor that is included in the undercurrent of the book.

Made of Honor

Made of Honor is a movie that I put off seeing. I wasn’t sure quite sure what to expect. Would the ending break my heart like My Best Friend’s Wedding did? Or would it be just another so-so romantic comedy? I can tell you that it was so much more than a simple romantic comedy. It was amazing. To begin with it has Patrick Dempsey, McDreamy; in a role that is perfect for him. The bachelor would is best friends with the girl and doesn’t realizes he loves her until it’s too late. Yup it is the stuff that romantic comedies are made of; those rare one that make you laugh and cry at the same time. Plus can it get any better than grown men plotting to stop a wedding. Well maybe Dempsey in a mini kilt. So pop the popcorn, grab the remote and sit back and laugh until you cry.

I AM NOT A COP by Richard Belzer

Some may know Richard Belzer from his long time role of Detective Munch on Law and Order: SUV. With his co-author Michael Black, Belzer takes the reader into the “twilight zone” that is his alter ego’s life in New York City. An alter ego who is very similar to the author himself, both go by the same name and play a cop on TV, well “Belz” has the martial arts skills, not Belzer. The real mystery begins when Belzer friend goes missing and it falls on Belzer to find him. Kirkus Reviews puts it best. “Take a plot inspired by old Hitchcock movies, stir in bad guys cribbed from Dostoevsky, apply a wisecracking, well-read New York City detective transported from the set of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and the result is this debut novel.” This fictional account of the actors alter ego, is funny, a little weird, but it is worth the time out of you day to sit down and read.
